(More customer reviews)I purchased our toaster earlier this week before having read any reviews about it here. I reviewed many, many other toasters/ovens on Amazon, then went to Target with a couple in mind that were in stock. In general, I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of all toasters/toaster ovens out there right now. They felt like cheap aluminum boxes mass produced in China. Our Krups toaster oven has been with us for 10 or 15 years and was wonderful. In any case, while getting disgusted at what Target did have available, around the corner in the aisle with all the Black and Decker SpaceMaker items I found this toaster and with a good sale price.
I get it home, quickly come here and see horror story after horror story. I'm wondering if I should even open the box or just take it back to Target immediately. Well, luckily I ignored the reviews here. Our SpaceMaker can opener has been wonderful and I was going to give this toaster a shot.
Having been forewarned about all the problems and headaches others have had with installation, I read all the instructions, took my time, laid everything out, checked, double checked and even triple checked before drilling any holes. Everything installed fine - no problems whatsoever. I didn't need 4 hands, extra spacers, longer screws, and didn't have any issues which others bring up. The instructions are fairly clear, and for anything which wasn't, anyone with some spacial acumen can figure out how things need to fit together. The instruction booklet was also very clear that if you needed additional spacers, to simply call them and they'd send them free of charge.
So, the toaster was installed a few days ago and looks beautiful in the location of our old toaster oven, but we now find ourselves with more counter space - just wonderful. A couple days go by and finally someone wants a toasted bagel for breakfast. Instead of blindly setting the knob for how long to toast and walking away, we did the unthinkable - we watched it toast to get an idea of how long it takes. The reason people are saying it burns their toast is because the heating elements are powerful and it toasts quickly. What's the big deal with that? Our Krups toaster oven had two heating elements on the top and two on the bottom. I was slightly concerned because this one has only one on the top and one on the bottom - however, these are thicker, they heat up extremely quickly, and they are more powerful. So, we made a guess how long we should set the timer, watched, and turned it off when done - just a tad shorter than we estimated. It also toasted evenly - no complaints.
Long story short - ignore the reviews here that do nothing but complain.
1. Read all the instructions when installing
2. Double and triple check location of holes and hood before drilling
3. First few times cooking with it, watch how long things take before being bold enough to set the timer and walk away. It's powerful - that's a good thing.

Proctor Silex Extra-Large Toaster Oven Broiler Review

(More customer reviews)This little toaster oven has earned its price in spades. The only bummer was that I thought I had ordered a larger toaster oven. However it is perfect for me and my small galley style kitchen. I have had it for several months now and have finally been putting it to the test. I have baked chicken, broiled turkey burgers, broiled pork chops, reheated pizza, made toast & baked a potato & reheated home made garlic bread. Everything turned out terrifically. It took several tries to figure out the "stay on" selection of the lower dial. My baked potato was the test dummy. I couldn't figure out how to keep it on. Finally figured it out after I cooked the potato & the chicken. Everything has cooked perfectly. This Proctor Silex toaster oven allows me(a single female) to cook smaller portions without having to use my big gas oven (which I love just as well)and wasting large amounts of energy. And this little oven gets the job done in a timely fashion. As for toast, well- that's still on trial & error for me. But with everything else it does I can live with imperfect toast.

(More customer reviews)The pizza oven works fine but it only heats at 350 degrees so you can't REALLY cook a pizza properly at that temperature. The rotisserrie works OK but the claim that you can put a large bird on there are false. The oven is tiny and the 3# bird has to be tied up tighter than a football to keep from touching the bottom of the oven (it cooks okay though). The standard bake oven is absolutely terrible - it cooks so uneven it's not even funny (I have a pumpkin pie cooking at this moment that has burned streaks on one edges and the middle is still liquid, and yes, I have foil over it) - cookies bake crispy on one end and chewy on the other. The convection is finicky - it will cook things very quickly but it's not easy to get it right since there is no magic time as to exactly when it will be finished.....I baked a fruit pie that was gorgeous on the outside and totally raw on the inside. I ended up cooking it again in the standard oven - I had to keep turning and turning to keep it from browning unevenly. So....all of that to say it's ok. It was convenient to have this holiday to keep a couple dishes warm. The pizza oven is convenient, but not as convenient as a space saving toaster oven which is basically what it is. Except a toaster oven is better made for the most part...the crummy plastic buttons on this thing feel like they will pop out everytime they are touched. Oh, it takes ages to heat up and it's frustrating if you don't hear the faint beep the oven just shuts off...grrrr.

Toastmaster TTOB4 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

and is not covered under any warranty. One of the darkness knobs popped out and the darkness is uncontrollable??? Toastmaster ignored all emails sent to them about this one.
Their griddle product is horrible. After approxiamately 6 uses,
the griddle began cooking uneven. They acknowledged one of my emails but never followed through. It took 60 days of my time, for nothing.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THIER LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTIES ARE JUST PROMISES.

I used it to make toast most mornings and 1-2 times a week used the broiler or oven function for fries or things like tuna melts. One day when I turned it on there was a strange, chemical, burning smell and it just stopped working. (More customer reviews)Got this as a gift for Christmas, and my wife and I are about to go dig our 10-year old Krups one out of the garage. About the only thing this one has going for it is that it looks fairly nice. The things about our Krups that we really miss on this one:
* On the Krups, you set one dial for how dark you want the toast, and push down a lever to tell it to start toasting. On this one, you have to set the oven temp to "Toast" then use the timer dial to make it go. This means that you have to remember/guess where on the dial results in the kind of toast you like.
* On the Krups, you could easily tell where the temperature was set. On this one, it's almost impossible to tell one end of the temperature dial form the other (it's pure black on black), so you often end up getting 150 degrees when you wanted 450, or vice versa. Because of this problem, you also often get 200 degrees when you want "toast", which means you end up with warm bread instead of toast. Very frustrating early in the morning.
* On the Krups, when you opened the door, two hooks automatically pulled the oven rack out an inch or two, meaning you didn't have to reach as far into a hot oven to retrieve your food/toast.
So, while it's not a HORRIBLE toaster, but it's pretty bad, and I'm busy looking for a good 4-slice toaster oven that's stainless steel (or similar) on the outside that includes the features I mentioned above. Suggestions, anyone?

DeLonghi XR640 Retro Toaster Oven Review

(More customer reviews)This toaster oven LOOKS cool. Everyone who comes into my kitchen comments on it. And frankly that's why I bought it. I figured all toaster ovens are alike, why not get one that looks different. I'll tell you why. The loud clicking of the analog timer is semi-annoying, but if your toast (or whatever) is ready before the timer runs out, you can't just push a button and turn it off. The timer has to tick through to the end. The timer broke the 3rd week I had the thing (ok I confess, I got impatient and tried to turn the timer off before it was done).
This toaster oven serves to remind me that looks aren't everything.
However it's a roomy little thing and comfortably fits 4 slices of bread. It has a nice baking tray too.
Something splattered on the inside of the glass on the door and I cannot clean it off. I don't bake in it and don't use it much so it's just a few spots but they are buggin me because I can't get them off.
What I've learned? Go digital. :)

I can think of only a few uses for this, but at the price I figure that I could buy a few and have a "make your own fajita" party or something and then throw them away if they aren't worth storing.
The overall manufacturing seems good, though I would have expected/hoped that the grilling surface was a little more substantial (cast iron) rather than pie-tin-thin.

(More customer reviews)What a disappointment. I am a huge Kitchenaid fan and I can't believe the poor quality of this toaster oven. As others have said, the finish is poor...the paint is not smooth and is chipping off around the oven door straight out of the box. The stainless steel trim is rough and cheap looking; it seems poorly machined. As for the performance, toasting is totally aggravating since the top element gets MUCH hotter than the bottom. The timer is cheap and the "ticking" is annoying. When the timer ends, the bell is out of synch. There is no on/off switch; just the timer to control the oven. I expected MUCH more from a toaster oven in this price range. I was happier with my old Toastmaster that cost about $40 and lasted for years. You can do much better than this for considerably less money.

(More customer reviews)I had very high hopes for this oven. It has the Calphalon name on it. Their PR write up sounds so promising. The warranty is good. The oven is handsome. Too bad it fails as an oven though. I tested this oven thoroughly upon receipt. I knew I had to make sure this was a keeper given the price. Save your money and buy a $60 toaster oven. It is important to share that I never use a 'big' oven. Normal ovens pull 3500 watts. They cost a fortune and the overwhelming majority of people don't need such a cavernous appliance. So I bake a lot and everything in countertop ovens. This oven suffers from bad design flaws. You can only use the middle rack position or you will burn the top or bottom of your food. There is almost no internal clearance for anything but the shallowest casserole dish. If you use the rack in the inverted position facing downwards (it has a 'dip' design to - not flat) and pull the rack out to safely remove the dish, the dish slides at a fast clip right out of the oven - almost lost a dish as it rapidly headed for the floor. This is happening because the rack tips down once you pull it forward enough to safely grasp the hot pan. Now I had to flip the rack and use it in that position due to the excessively low clearance - my small casserole dish wouldn't fit and I couldn't move the rack down lest I burn the food - you see where this circle never ends. This occurred regardless of using a casserole dish or a bake sheet. And the back left quadrant cooks much faster than the rest of the oven. I had to watch the food and rotate the pan - talk about aggravating. The back of the oven is actually angled forward presenting a really strange limitation on what it can really hold. I tested many different types of items in the oven to be as thorough and fair as I possibly could especially since it came in such a large packing box. It is going to be a pain to return but return I must unless I feel like cursing everytime I attempt to use it. I am wondering if the people who designed this ever actually used it? A few design changes and this product wouldn't be such a beast.
Clarification: There is an 'edge' to the rack that, when used with the invert facing upwards will stop any dish from sliding out. But the loss of clear space above means only pans or very shallow dishes can be used. Tried using it in this position in the lowest slots but that was still so close to the lower elements that the bottom of the cinnamon rolls burned. Just want to be specific about the issues faced. I am looking for a counter top oven that does more than just pizza, biscuits, etc.. I believe the enclosed user guide mentioned you could use this oven to cook a chicken. It had better be either a cut up one or a miniature one.

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven Review

(More customer reviews)I wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far). I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews:
Review #1: This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective.
(1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible.
(2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away).
(3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome.
I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow.
Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven.
Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one. I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself.
It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time. It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs. I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly. I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking! Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try. Just buy two ;)

Hamilton Beach 31125 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Broil Function Review

Oven gets hot fast (less pre-heat time). Compact size (I live in an apartment so that's important). I gave it only 4 stars because it's not too attractive. But, it works well!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this beautiful toaster/convection oven to use as a second oven for entertaining/holidays and for everyday use to cook for just the two of us.
First of all, it's darned beautiful to look at. It matches my stainless appliances and looks fabulous on my counter. The controls are very easy to use. It comes with 2 racks (although you're only supposed to use one at a time) and a baking pan/broiler tray. But the best thing is that it comes with a baking stone which sits in one of the racks and the oven itself is lined with baking stone material on either side. The back of the oven has the convection fan. All non-stone surfaces are of nonstick material, which makes it a cinch to clean.
In the month I've had it, I've used this amazing appliance to bake cakes and casseroles, broil shrimp, make pizza, roast tomatoes and chickens and even toast an english muffin! It passed every test with flying colors. The oven is large enough to fit a whole chicken for roasting - and did a great job.
I'd say the weak points are that you have to turn the oven around to get the crumb tray out (a minor inconvenience) and both the crumb tray and the baking pan tend to warp when the oven is hot.
To use the baking stone, you must preheat the oven for at least 30 minutes. Not a problem for me, as I preheated while waiting for my pizza dough to rise. Worked out great.
I'm delighted to give this my highest recommendation.

(More customer reviews)First I must say that this toaster oven makes better toast than any other toaster oven I have used. That said, there are a few things that disappointed me.
1. There is an on/off button. It would be better if using the other buttons turned it on automatically and it should turn off automatically when the cycle ends.
2. That light is bright! Very strange to have space-alien lighting emanating from the toaster over. A tinted door would be nice.
3. Not good for baking. This oven does a great job of heating the surface, but not so great heating the center of things. Even cookies did not fare well.
4. The oven is hotter in back and cooler in front. It even mentions this in the instructions. Large items such as pizza need to be rotated partway through heating.
5. The temperature increments are weird and won't match most recipes.
It does, however, make great toast. Even Pepperidge Farm's Texas Toast worked well. Any other toaster oven I have used has always toasted the top and bottom unevenly, leaving a crunchy top and soggy bottom. Grilled cheese sandwiches work great too. I love the Frozen Toast button - the button I use most. Hopefully Panasonic will correct the annoyances with the next model, but I'm still keeping this one.

(More customer reviews)I received this oven very quickly from Ritz Camera. I had contacted them to say the dimensions shown must be incorrect since the height is given as 18.6" which from the picture obviously cannot be right - it cannot be taller than it is wide. The company who makes this oven confirmed the real dimensions which are: Width 17" X Depth 13" (to fit a 12"pizza) and height just 9".
Obviously the true dimensions are better than those given. Who wants a toaster oven over 18" tall?
The oven seems well made and after only one use the fan assisted oven seems to work efficiently and quietly. It was however covered in annoying stickers which are difficult, time-consuming and messy to remove. The pinger or bell when the auto-timer shuts off is almost inaudible. Also, there is no interior light as advertised.
I would give the product 5 stars if it had a continuous clean oven coating. I will update this when it has had some use.
