Black & Decker SpaceMaker Traditional Toaster Ovens Review

Black and Decker SpaceMaker Traditional Toaster Ovens
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased our toaster earlier this week before having read any reviews about it here. I reviewed many, many other toasters/ovens on Amazon, then went to Target with a couple in mind that were in stock. In general, I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of all toasters/toaster ovens out there right now. They felt like cheap aluminum boxes mass produced in China. Our Krups toaster oven has been with us for 10 or 15 years and was wonderful. In any case, while getting disgusted at what Target did have available, around the corner in the aisle with all the Black and Decker SpaceMaker items I found this toaster and with a good sale price.
I get it home, quickly come here and see horror story after horror story. I'm wondering if I should even open the box or just take it back to Target immediately. Well, luckily I ignored the reviews here. Our SpaceMaker can opener has been wonderful and I was going to give this toaster a shot.
Having been forewarned about all the problems and headaches others have had with installation, I read all the instructions, took my time, laid everything out, checked, double checked and even triple checked before drilling any holes. Everything installed fine - no problems whatsoever. I didn't need 4 hands, extra spacers, longer screws, and didn't have any issues which others bring up. The instructions are fairly clear, and for anything which wasn't, anyone with some spacial acumen can figure out how things need to fit together. The instruction booklet was also very clear that if you needed additional spacers, to simply call them and they'd send them free of charge.
So, the toaster was installed a few days ago and looks beautiful in the location of our old toaster oven, but we now find ourselves with more counter space - just wonderful. A couple days go by and finally someone wants a toasted bagel for breakfast. Instead of blindly setting the knob for how long to toast and walking away, we did the unthinkable - we watched it toast to get an idea of how long it takes. The reason people are saying it burns their toast is because the heating elements are powerful and it toasts quickly. What's the big deal with that? Our Krups toaster oven had two heating elements on the top and two on the bottom. I was slightly concerned because this one has only one on the top and one on the bottom - however, these are thicker, they heat up extremely quickly, and they are more powerful. So, we made a guess how long we should set the timer, watched, and turned it off when done - just a tad shorter than we estimated. It also toasted evenly - no complaints.
Long story short - ignore the reviews here that do nothing but complain.
1. Read all the instructions when installing
2. Double and triple check location of holes and hood before drilling
3. First few times cooking with it, watch how long things take before being bold enough to set the timer and walk away. It's powerful - that's a good thing.

No need to give up valuable counter space for the convenience of a toaster oven thanks to this thoughtfully designed appliance. Furthermore, its Save-a-Plug outlet makes it possible to connect a SpaceMaker Mini Food Processor/Grinder or Can Opener directly into the toaster oven, saving the wall outlet for other uses. Proctor Silex Extra-Large Toaster Oven Broiler Review

Proctor Silex Extra-Large Toaster Oven Broiler
Average Reviews:

This little toaster oven has earned its price in spades. The only bummer was that I thought I had ordered a larger toaster oven. However it is perfect for me and my small galley style kitchen. I have had it for several months now and have finally been putting it to the test. I have baked chicken, broiled turkey burgers, broiled pork chops, reheated pizza, made toast & baked a potato & reheated home made garlic bread. Everything turned out terrifically. It took several tries to figure out the "stay on" selection of the lower dial. My baked potato was the test dummy. I couldn't figure out how to keep it on. Finally figured it out after I cooked the potato & the chicken. Everything has cooked perfectly. This Proctor Silex toaster oven allows me(a single female) to cook smaller portions without having to use my big gas oven (which I love just as well)and wasting large amounts of energy. And this little oven gets the job done in a timely fashion. As for toast, well- that's still on trial & error for me. But with everything else it does I can live with imperfect toast.

I am not complaining but these are the facts that I feel about this toaster:-
1) The top gets really hot. So don't put anything on top of it if the toaster is on.
2) Feels cheap with sheet metal all around.
3) The timer is loud and only limits to 15 minutes max.
4) No separate toast button.
5) 2 heating units only. One on top and the other is at the bottom.
6) It does get the job done for me most of the time.
7) It holds 4 slice, not six in the description.
8) The mesh tray is flat with no setting for height adjustment.

Farberware FAC850SS 6-Slice Stainless-Steel Convection Toaster Oven Review

Farberware FAC850SS 6-Slice Stainless-Steel Convection Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

Very nice. Great design. So far Im happy. I used to have an older Farberware convection oven and it was a bit larger. I liked it better than the new design. Im not all that crazy with the "pizza" design trend with the round exposed "pizza" area in the back of the unit. Its not insulated like the rest of the oven and its hot, and loosing energy thru heat loss. But it seems most ovens now are not concerned with effeciancy.
This company had a great oven about 8 years ago, and now I cant find it.
This is the best for its price though, and it does what its says, but the older unit was better. A bit larger, but much better! I found some used units of the old oven on ebay but they were pretty " used " so I got this one.
My last Faberware lasted 10 years. Im hoping for the same with this one.
Im sure you will be quite happy with this model. I like the crumb tray. and it comes with a broiler pan. Nice touch!

I have looked all over for a good toaster oven. It seems like all toaster ovens have focused more on being ovens that toasters. This on has a great balance of both features. The oven setting works well, but what really set this toaster oven apart is the toasting function.
It has a very large dial that lets you get more accurate with how much you toast your items. It also doesn't require that you turn the timer dial past a certain point before choosing your setting. I really couldn't be happier!

I recently owned two Toastmaster products and both are now in the local landfill. One broke after 4 months, 4-slice toaster,
and is not covered under any warranty. One of the darkness knobs popped out and the darkness is uncontrollable??? Toastmaster ignored all emails sent to them about this one.
Their griddle product is horrible. After approxiamately 6 uses,
the griddle began cooking uneven. They acknowledged one of my emails but never followed through. It took 60 days of my time, for nothing.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THIER LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTIES ARE JUST PROMISES.

Four Slice Toaster Oven with Timer Review

Four Slice Toaster Oven with Timer

(More customer reviews)
I bought this toaster oven in early January and by the second week of September - after very moderate use - it had died. I used it to make toast most mornings and 1-2 times a week used the broiler or oven function for fries or things like tuna melts. One day when I turned it on there was a strange, chemical, burning smell and it just stopped working. My previous toaster oven (different brand) worked great for over a decade - wish I could replace it!

Black & Decker TRO620 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black and Decker TRO620 4-Slice Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am reading toaster oven reviews because this B&D TR0620 is the oven I want to replace. It still works, but life is too short to endure the aggravation factors.
As the previous reviewer reported accurately, the oven stays on after I believe I have turned it off (and after I have tried my best to turn it off and failed). This is unacceptable. So for safety reasons, I try to remember to keep the oven unplugged at all times when I am not actually using it. But here is the "Gotcha!:" The ON count-down knob with the timer works -- LOUD tick-tick-tick-tick -- without power! More times than I want to admit, I have inserted bread, twisted the ON knob to "Medium," and turned my attention to other parts of the meal while the toaster oven tick-tick-ticks away and then, DING! turns itself off. But when I finish the other preparations and return to the toaster oven, I find plain untoasted bread because all the knobs and noises worked even though the oven was not plugged in. That was a funny practical joke maybe once. If the oven were not too dangerous to leave plugged in when not in use, the trick timer ON knob would not be such an issue.
The other constant annoyance on my oven is the inability to close the oven door with one hand after removing the toast or food tray with the other hand. The door gets jammed in the wide open position and I have to put the food down somewhere else and come back with pot holders to fool around with the hot oven, jiggling the door hinges into position to work with the retractable oven rack.
The toast is unevenly browned, and brown only on one side.
All I want is a little countertop device that will toast odd sizes of bread evenly and quickly, and also allow me to melt cheese on open sandwiches. I realize I am describing the original Black and Decker toaster oven from the 1970's, and I wish I could find one.

Black and Decker Convection Black and Chrome 4 Slice Toaster Oven Review

I purchased the Black and Decker Convection oven about 3 weeks ago and noticed that it is extremely difficult to control the toasting level and it is highly prone to burn if it is not carefully monitored. This morning, I popped in some bread, turned the toaster on, and unfortunately left the room. Low and behold, I started to smell burning toast. I went into the kitchen to remove the toast and was frightened to see that both peices of bread were in flames! The flames covered almost the the entire inside of the oven. Thankfully, I was able to put the flames out before anything else went ablaze. This happened in under a few minutes of toasting. Absolute fire hazard... DO NOT PURCHASE!

I had the standard Toaster oven by GE finally went on me.
I asked my daughter to help me find one that was just simple, no flashy extras. Just a timer, heat setting and oven or toast selector can't get much simpliar than that. Very well designed, and has replaced my oven completely. Some people may not like the sound of the ticking of the timer, but personally it's a good reminder it's on. Also you can only set the timer up until an hour and to me that is a good function also cause I don't think you would or should use this to replace and oven for long time cooking.

Aroma ABT-208S 4-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster Oven Review

Aroma ABT-208S 4-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this as a gift for Christmas, and my wife and I are about to go dig our 10-year old Krups one out of the garage. About the only thing this one has going for it is that it looks fairly nice. The things about our Krups that we really miss on this one:
* On the Krups, you set one dial for how dark you want the toast, and push down a lever to tell it to start toasting. On this one, you have to set the oven temp to "Toast" then use the timer dial to make it go. This means that you have to remember/guess where on the dial results in the kind of toast you like.
* On the Krups, you could easily tell where the temperature was set. On this one, it's almost impossible to tell one end of the temperature dial form the other (it's pure black on black), so you often end up getting 150 degrees when you wanted 450, or vice versa. Because of this problem, you also often get 200 degrees when you want "toast", which means you end up with warm bread instead of toast. Very frustrating early in the morning.
* On the Krups, when you opened the door, two hooks automatically pulled the oven rack out an inch or two, meaning you didn't have to reach as far into a hot oven to retrieve your food/toast.
So, while it's not a HORRIBLE toaster, but it's pretty bad, and I'm busy looking for a good 4-slice toaster oven that's stainless steel (or similar) on the outside that includes the features I mentioned above. Suggestions, anyone?

DeLonghi XR640 Retro Toaster Oven Review

This toaster oven LOOKS cool. Everyone who comes into my kitchen comments on it. And frankly that's why I bought it. I figured all toaster ovens are alike, why not get one that looks different. I'll tell you why. The loud clicking of the analog timer is semi-annoying, but if your toast (or whatever) is ready before the timer runs out, you can't just push a button and turn it off. The timer has to tick through to the end. The timer broke the 3rd week I had the thing (ok I confess, I got impatient and tried to turn the timer off before it was done).
This toaster oven serves to remind me that looks aren't everything.
However it's a roomy little thing and comfortably fits 4 slices of bread. It has a nice baking tray too.
Something splattered on the inside of the glass on the door and I cannot clean it off. I don't bake in it and don't use it much so it's just a few spots but they are buggin me because I can't get them off.
What I've learned? Go digital. :)

What a disappointment. I am a huge Kitchenaid fan and I can't believe the poor quality of this toaster oven. As others have said, the finish is poor...the paint is not smooth and is chipping off around the oven door straight out of the box. The stainless steel trim is rough and cheap looking; it seems poorly machined. As for the performance, toasting is totally aggravating since the top element gets MUCH hotter than the bottom. The timer is cheap and the "ticking" is annoying. When the timer ends, the bell is out of synch. There is no on/off switch; just the timer to control the oven. I expected MUCH more from a toaster oven in this price range. I was happier with my old Toastmaster that cost about $40 and lasted for years. You can do much better than this for considerably less money.

For everything from baking a whole chicken to toasting bagels, this versatile countertop oven features a 1/2-cubic-foot capacity with a nonstick quick-clean interior. Large easy-to-read knobs set the precise cooking function, temperature, and time. Choose to bake, broil, toast, or warm with temperatures up to 450 degrees F. A convenient indicator light glows red to show when the oven is in use. The unit's rugged, heavy-gauge steel broil pan provides long-lasting durability, and its Wave-Rack oven rack lets air circulate around six slices at once, ensuring evenly toasted bread.
Brushed stainless steel forms the oven's front, doorframe, handle, and crumb drawer for a durable and stylish addition to any kitchen. The unit's extra-large door handle is contoured for a confident grip, while its clear, tempered-glass door window allows for monitoring the broiling and browning of food. In addition, the oven's dishwasher-safe crumb drawer pulls out completely without opening the oven door. The countertop appliance measures approximately 19 by 13 by 10 inches and carries a one-year hassle-free replacement warranty.

DeLonghi EO1251 6-Slice 1/2-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven, Black and Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

This appliance works quite well both as an oven as well as a toaster but does not really cut cooking times by 40%. For example, the manual states 50 minutes for a baked potato. In actual experience that's about how long it took but it's also about the same amount of time as it takes in my conventional oven. That option uses more electricity, however, so it's a better value to use this one for small meals. The same thing goes for taquitos, pies, and similar snacks. They take a little less time than a conventional oven but nowhere near 40% less, though the convection cooking does make things a bit crisper when you're looking for that feature.
The smaller oven gets up to heat much faster than a full size one does, of course, saving some electricity that way too. It seems to have a cold spot near the glass door which is particularly noticable when cooking pies (which, by the way, are the only thing that seems to cook ~30% faster than normal). Rotating them about halfway through the cooking process resolves that problem for the most part.
The advertising states that it comes with a non-stick bake pan and a non-stick broil tray. The pan and tray are included but they are not non-stick. The interior coating, however, is except for the crumb tray. The variable temperature goes up to 450 which is sufficient for most applications. It broils well, toasts okay, and has a very quite and efficient convection motor.
The dial controls are cheap plastic so I'm not sure how long they'll last. I've only had it for a few weeks at this point and they're doing okay but I'm conscious about delicacy in handling them. It comes with two racks yet it's so small inside I've yet to find a combination of anything other than toast that allows me to use both of them. The advertising/picture makes it look much larger than it really is.
All in all I'm happy with the unit and at the Amazon discount/free shipping with the price too. There's no way I'd pay full "retail" price though... I'm also a little disappointed about the accuracy of the product descrition and the overall speed of cooking however. It is, without a doubt, a huge improvement over a conventional toaster oven.

Average Reviews:

Pros: Big interier space, comes with all cooking accessories, easy to assemble, clear instructions. Cools of quickly, has a setting for the door to be open about 1/2 inch.
Cons: Black on silver makes the dials hard to read, The three settings (bake, brown and toast) are not defined in the manual. First time burning off the chemicals on the elements is VERY smokey! Smelled like I was melting a GI Joe in the thing! Set off my smoke detector it did!
Conclusion: An excellent buy for the money! Keep an eye on it (use a seporate timer until you get used to it) I had a potpie that went from perfect to slightly burned in 30 seconds (set off my smoke detector again)

Calphalon HE650CO XL 1400-Watt 0.7-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Convection Oven Review

Average Reviews:

I had very high hopes for this oven. It has the Calphalon name on it. Their PR write up sounds so promising. The warranty is good. The oven is handsome. Too bad it fails as an oven though. I tested this oven thoroughly upon receipt. I knew I had to make sure this was a keeper given the price. Save your money and buy a $60 toaster oven. It is important to share that I never use a 'big' oven. Normal ovens pull 3500 watts. They cost a fortune and the overwhelming majority of people don't need such a cavernous appliance. So I bake a lot and everything in countertop ovens. This oven suffers from bad design flaws. You can only use the middle rack position or you will burn the top or bottom of your food. There is almost no internal clearance for anything but the shallowest casserole dish. If you use the rack in the inverted position facing downwards (it has a 'dip' design to - not flat) and pull the rack out to safely remove the dish, the dish slides at a fast clip right out of the oven - almost lost a dish as it rapidly headed for the floor. This is happening because the rack tips down once you pull it forward enough to safely grasp the hot pan. Now I had to flip the rack and use it in that position due to the excessively low clearance - my small casserole dish wouldn't fit and I couldn't move the rack down lest I burn the food - you see where this circle never ends. This occurred regardless of using a casserole dish or a bake sheet. And the back left quadrant cooks much faster than the rest of the oven. I had to watch the food and rotate the pan - talk about aggravating. The back of the oven is actually angled forward presenting a really strange limitation on what it can really hold. I tested many different types of items in the oven to be as thorough and fair as I possibly could especially since it came in such a large packing box. It is going to be a pain to return but return I must unless I feel like cursing everytime I attempt to use it. I am wondering if the people who designed this ever actually used it? A few design changes and this product wouldn't be such a beast.
Clarification: There is an 'edge' to the rack that, when used with the invert facing upwards will stop any dish from sliding out. But the loss of clear space above means only pans or very shallow dishes can be used. Tried using it in this position in the lowest slots but that was still so close to the lower elements that the bottom of the cinnamon rolls burned. Just want to be specific about the issues faced. I am looking for a counter top oven that does more than just pizza, biscuits, etc.. I believe the enclosed user guide mentioned you could use this oven to cook a chicken. It had better be either a cut up one or a miniature one.

Attractively housed in stainless steel, this convection oven not only looks great on the countertop, it also provides an array of convenient features. The appliance bakes, broils, and toasts, and its large 0.7-cubic-foot capacity can accommodate a 9-by-13-inch pan, a 12-inch pizza, or six slices of bread, bagel halves, or English muffin halves. To toast, simply press the "toast" button and select from "light", "medium", or "dark" shade settings. For baking, turn the temperature control knob to the desired heat setting, ranging from 250 to 450 degrees F, then set the timer up to 60 minutes or choose the "always on" setting for continuous operation. For convection baking, simply push the button and the convection fan circulates warm air around food during the baking cycle for superior browning and even baking or roasting. Or, turn the control knob to "broil" and set the timer; the unit's upper heating element will quickly sear meats or melt cheese on garlic bread. A chime will sound once the timer ticks down to zero, or with the "always on" setting, the unit will shut off automatically after two hours. Other highlights include an Opti-Heat system for premium heating, a glass door for checking on the cooking progress at a glance, a high-performance bronze nonstick interior, and a removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. Accessories include a nonstick heavy-gauge 9-by-13-inch baking pan/broil rack and an easy-to-follow instruction book. With its sleek, contoured shape, the 1400-watt convection oven measures 16 by 17-2/3 by 10-2/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
