Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook Momentum Program Edition Review

Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook Momentum Program Edition

I gave it a 3 star review because ii is IDENTICAL to the 2006 edition. I have just sat and compared the indexes for both books and so far have found NO difference. In fact, the cover picture for this edition is the picture from page 241 in the 2006 edition.
However, if you are looking for a good Betty Crocker meets WW type cookbook, then either edition (since they are the same) will fit the bill nicely and be a good addition to any WW'ers kitchens :)

The New American Heart Association Cookbook, 7th Edition Review

The New American Heart Association Cookbook, 7th Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Last February 1999 I was hospitalized for several weeks with a heart problem. After I was discharged I knew I had to do something about my weight. I purchased the New American Heart Association Cookbook and changed my eating habits. Using the recipes from this cookbook, along with an excellent walking program, I have lost almost 50 pounds between the end of February 1999 and August 1999. There are way too many good recipes for me to list, but several of my favorites are: Chicken Fajitas (I use the low-fat tortilla wrappers that you can find in any store), Crispy Baked Chicken, Asian Grilled Chicken and Vegetarian Chili. The best recommendation I can make for this book is to tell you that my doctor now tells me that I have a very healthy heart and I sincerely believe that I owe it to my walking program and the excellent recipes from The New American Heart Association Cookbook.

More Healthy Homestyle Cooking: Family Favorites You'll Make Again And Again Review

More Healthy Homestyle Cooking: Family Favorites You'll Make Again And Again

I can't say enough good things about this book!! I bet I have a dozen low-fat or diet cookbooks collecting dust on my shelves because the recipes either don't taste good, they are too difficult to make, or I can't find the ingredients. Everything I have made from this cookbook has been fantastic and quick and easy, too. My husband loves what I cook now, and it is good for us, too. I am planning on purchasing her first Homestyle cookbook and getting rid of all the rest of my low fat cookbooks!

The Juan-Carlos Cruz Calorie Countdown Cookbook: A 5-Week Eating Strategy for Sustainable Weight Loss Review

The Juan-Carlos Cruz Calorie Countdown Cookbook: A 5-Week Eating Strategy for Sustainable Weight Loss

Ever find yourself frustrated by the sheer quantity of ingredients in a weight watchers recipe for a meal you wouldn't even eat under normal circumstances, never mind the prep time? Tired of eating faux lasagna and cutting out the bread and cheese at every meal? This is the book for you.
Juan-Carlos Cruz provides recipes for foods regular people eat that are tasty, low-fat and don't use outlandish ingredients or preparation methods. Meatloaf tastes and feels like eating meatloaf, low fat mashed potatoes still have a satisying creamy texture and lots of taste. Nutritional information is provided with every recipe, so it's worth the money even if you don't follow his 5 week plan.

Pillsbury Complete Cookbook: Recipes from America's Most-Trusted Kitchens Review

Pillsbury Complete Cookbook: Recipes from America's Most-Trusted Kitchens

I eagerly awaited the release of this cookbook because I have the yellow ring-bound Pillsbury Cookbook that was published back in 1979. The yellow Pillsbury cookbook has been my all-time favorite cookbook of all time. I've made MANY recipes from there over the years.
Pillsbury makes incredible cookbooks (as well as those monthly cookbook magazines you can get by mail or at the grocery store check-out!) and this new one is no exception.
It has all the basics that a beginning cook needs to know - how long to cook a beef roast, emergency substitutions, a chapter on freezing and canning, a cooking glossary, a guide to utensils, and much more!
I love the ring-bound format because the book lays flat (I'd recommend a page-protector or some plastic over the recipe as you're working though, to prevent spills on your new cookbook! ).
This cookbook's recipes are for just plain good cooking! Not a lot of exotic ingredients are included, but you will find some of the more recent additions into cookbooks such as a chapter on Vegetarian Cooking.
The cookbook is divided into 12 sections, each separated by a very lightweight cardboard stock with a tab of the same paper extending past the edges of the recipe pages, indicating the topic of that section. The reason I mention this is that I really feel that Pillsbury could've spent a little more on this cookbook and made the dividers from a stiffer cardboard and made the divider tabs especially in such a way where they would stand up to heavy use (since this cookbook is one you might use constantly!).
Perhaps I'm spoiled by having the other one, but in the 1979 model, the dividing pages have much stiffer cardboard and I just recently lost the first tab from that cookbook - after 21 years!!
The 1979 yellow edition was ahead of it's time by providing full nutrition facts, including fat grams! My other criticism of the new book is that the Nutrition Information is printed in such teeny-tiny print that it's quite hard to read! The Nutrition info text in the old cookbook is quite a bit larger!
Perhaps Pillsbury was saving space by using a small font, but personally I'd rather pay a few extra dollars and get a cookbook which will stand stand the test of time in both readability and durability.
Please note that these are the ONLY criticisms I have of this fine cookbook! It is a wonderful basic cookbook to have on hand! And it would make an excellent gift for any cook, from the newly married and just starting out, to the experienced cook.

Cooking the Whole Foods Way: Your Complete, Everyday Guide to Healthy Eating Review

Cooking the Whole Foods Way: Your Complete, Everyday Guide to Healthy Eating
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cookbook is the solution for those "health-seekers" who want to eat by the rules (more fiber, more whole grains, less refined sugar, more vegetables). Many of the recipes are delicious, and it's nice to make something that tastes good but that won't give you pangs of food-guilt later.
A few caveats: 1. This is not a pure vegetarian cookbook. She has a whole section on fish. The author does not eat fish herself, but wanted to more fully represent the macrobiotic philosophy. 2. This doesn't give a good look at the full spectrum of macrobiotics. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but from what I've read of some of the other macrobiotics founders, this seemed very incomplete. She seems to concentrate primarily on the yin-yang principle (in her next book she talks about the elements), but doesn't give a comprehensive overview of how those can affect certain conditions. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, she includes a lot of ingredients most macrobiotics shun (chocolate, garlic, etc.) She seems to bend the rules a lot when it comes to desserts. 3. Having said that, when the author thinks a rule is important, she runs with it. Don't even think of eating raw vegetables or fruits, any white flour, or certain vegetables, like tomatoes.
All in all, I thought this cookbook was a valuable addition to my collection, but I didn't think it was a very good lifestyle guideline.

I happened upon this book and thought I'd give it a shot. That was a year ago and I still use it a few times a week. The food is normal and delicious! My boyfriend loved almost everything I made from this book because it's stuff you would normally make. There are a few new things you will probably want to try, but also, if you have a favorite meal such as chicken cacciatore, beef stroganoff, or cheesecake this book has the recipe and shows you how to make it healthful and still delicious. I use the weight watchers points system and had no trouble converting recipes. It also gives exchange, fat and calorie values for dieters who use a different program. I highly recommend it! It's worth it!
